DEEP CARBON SHIFT is a European Alliance for Innovation that addresses one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the transition towards climate-neutral, resilient, and inclusive cities. By recognising cities as complex living systems, the project responds to the need for integrated solutions that simultaneously tackle emissions reduction, social well-being, and urban quality, in line with EU climate and sustainability goals
At the core of DEEP CARBON SHIFT lies a transformation of Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training (VET). The project develops and tests transdisciplinary, practice-based curricula that integrate deep tech technologies—including digital twins, artificial intelligence, IoT, and sensing—with green and circular economy principles and entrepreneurial skills. Through close collaboration with industry, research organisations, and public authorities, education is positioned as a strategic lever for systemic urban decarbonisation
Looking beyond the project’s duration, DEEP CARBON SHIFT advances a long-term collaborative vision for Europe. By establishing observatories, fostering cross-sector partnerships, and enabling replication and scalability of educational models, the alliance builds a durable ecosystem where education, technology, and governance co-evolve to support the continuous transformation of cities towards sustainable and climate-neutral futures
