DEEP CARBON SHIFT delivers concrete and long-lasting outcomes for Higher Education (HE) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) by transforming how urban decarbonisation is addressed within educational systems. The project results in the development, testing, and validation of new transdisciplinary curricula that integrate deep tech, sustainability, and entrepreneurial competences, ensuring that educational programmes remain relevant to rapidly evolving societal and labour market needs
A key educational outcome is the upskilling and reskilling of learners, educators, and trainers across multiple disciplines. Through practice-based learning, learners acquire green, digital, resilience, and entrepreneurial skills while working on real-world urban challenges using advanced technologies such as digital twins, AI, IoT, and data-driven tools. At the same time, educators benefit from new teaching methodologies, shared resources, and cross-institutional collaboration, strengthening institutional capacity for innovation in teaching and learning
Beyond individual programmes, DEEP CARBON SHIFT contributes to systemic educational change by establishing mechanisms for replication, scalability, and long-term adoption. Through observatories, partnerships with industry and public authorities, and open-access educational resources, the project enables institutions across Europe to adapt and implement the developed models. As a result, education is positioned as a strategic driver of urban decarbonisation, innovation, and inclusive growth within European cities
“Cities are home to the majority of humankind and more than ever a beacon of hope when it comes to climate change”.
Michael Bloomberg (UN Special Envoy for Cities)
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela
